THE LATEST NEWS --ANOTHER BOOK READING -- this time 80 minutes, so MORE stories!!!
Alex Bond and David Carson read from Ms. Bond’s novel. A hit at numerous festivals in the U.S., this book reading transports listeners back to Dallas 1977 with delightful and poignant tales of a Southern Chanteuse and her gay family-of-friends in this pre-AIDS wildly magical era.

This reading will be dedicated to DORIC WILSON, playwright and friend. After viewing a DVD of “LATE NIGHTS…” Mr. Wilson wrote Ms. Bond a letter. An excerpt:
“As to the leather bar in Texas, it is a world I predate. I belonged to the earlier more earnest leather scene of the 1950-1960s. I am part of the old crowd who were horrified by the handkerchief codes and boot-tiques in bars – we stood there in the shadows, snapping our studded leather fans open like so many Newport matrons! But thank you so much for freezing this heartbreaking time in amber like the most rare of all butterflies – caught forever in joyous mid flight. DORIC”
Thank you, Doric, for paving the way.

Review Quotes from past readings: see below
“In 1977 in Dallas if you sang to a group of gay men about a land that was wonderful, where all the lost boys could be free to be themselves, you became their Wendy. If you sang to a group of gay men about a land where they could be happy and would never grow old, and you asked them to come there with you, you became their Wendy. As Anna sang about this special land, she realized that this was a group of men who just wanted to belong somewhere – somewhere safe and lovely; and for a brief moment, Anna Zander took them to Never Never Land. She was their Wendy - and to her, there was no greater honor.”

DAVID CARSON and ALEX BOND have been reading selections from Alex's book for four years now. With directorial guidance from Steven Yuhasz, they have traveled to Dallas, P'town, San Francisco*, and NYC bringing Alex's message of tolerance and an appreciation of the "joie de vivre" of the past to listeners. Please enjoy looking though the photos and reading about the (as yet unpublished) novel's history.

*In San Francisco, my dear, multi-talented friend SUSAN BAUM read the portions of the book I would normally read. (I had to stay in NYC as the understudy for "Flamingo Court".) I am more than grateful to her for doing such a wonderful job! She and David got rave reviews.
